City of Delights Dress in Autumn Flowers (Simplicity 8214)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

I’ve had this lovely drapey fabric from my Grandma’s Stash pulled out, washed, and folded for years. I had originally planned to use it to make this pattern:

I never actually even cut it out. It wasn’t until last week that I was inspired in another direction, and cut and sewed this dress up in two days:

I had exactly enough fabric for it, and I absolutely love it. Pockets are such an essential feature to me now that I will add them to every skirt or dress if I can. I love the midi length of the skirt, and the button blouse with necktie. Even the sleeves are darling! They have a lovely little split bell cuff.

I cut the size 10 and it fit perfectly. I did taper in the sleeves just a bit to make them more fitted; I stitched it 1/4″ from the cuff and tapered it to the original seam allowance at the armpit.

I love all the autumn colors in the fabric, and it is so soft! I wish I knew what it was. But it was a joy to sew with and wear. I also found these round golden buttons in my Grandma’s button bin, which I love the look of.
