This is a story full of ups and downs! But then again, isn’t that life?
To start, way back in the spring, I found this inspiration pic on Pinterest:
I became obsessed with it! I had to make a two-piece dress. So I did:
When I originally posted about this dress, the links for the inspiration pic on Pinterest didn’t lead anywhere, so I didn’t know where that wonderful dress came from. (I’ve since updated my post with the link) Then, just yesterday, I found another photo and it led me to Jessica Quirk of What I Wore. I had pinned about five of her photos before I just made a separate board for her and proceeded to pin about 90% of her available content. And as I was pinning, “what to my wondering eyes should appear” but the original two-piece dress photo! It was her! I was so happily surprised. I think she even looks a little like Jennifer Gardner, for whom I have a special place in my heart since I sewed her kids Harry Potter robes for their birthday party. Plus, Alias is awesome.
Anyway, I was so happy to find Jessica Quirk. She wears so many things that are completely my style, and what’s more, she thrifts or sews many of her pieces.
This is in contrast to this blogger, who is still inspiring me, but is moving towards more and more expensive, designer pieces that are not only astronomically out of my price range, but sometimes are no longer my style at all.
For example, I will absolutely make a replica of this ric rac dress, white floral maxi dress, blue button-front sundress, and red stripe sundress:
But I pray that I am never in a place where I think $1,098.00, $715.00, $402.50, and $425.00, respectively, are normal prices for dresses.
And second, I would never wear these:
So finding Jessica Quirk yesterday was wonderful!
Then, today, I clicked on one of her photos to see what pattern she had used, and I read her farewell post! She literally closed her daily outfit photo blog yesterday!
Of course, I wish her all the best as she focuses on raising her two kids, spending time with her husband, and working her 75-year old farmhouse and land. But I also hope I see her on the flip side of parenting, when she has more time to herself and maybe, just maybe, picks up outfit-creation again. Until then, I have 10 years of archives to be inspired by.
