Lavishly Ravishing Tank Top in Dusky Lavender (Simplicity 8385)

ladyherndon Saw That, Sew This

Here’s the third project I worked on during my Sewing Retreat! I had originally found this gorgeous lace-and-sequin trim in the Trims on Wheels booth at the sewing and quilting expo that my Mom and I went to last year. I’ve previously used one of the trims on this dress, and I love it when I find just the right garment for each one. This purple lace piece has little silver sequins and beads on it, but it also had a very specific shape. It was kismet when I saw the line drawing of Simplicity 8385 and then found this dusky purple silky fabric in my Grandma’s Stash. Match made in heaven!

I sewed view B but left off the ruffle, because I obviously had other, more sparkly embellishment in mind!

The shape of the tank top matched the trim perfectly. The tank top itself wasn’t hard to sew at all, but it was my first time using bra slides and I did take off a whopping 4″ from the length because, holy cow, was this thing long! I sewed a size 10 and used French seams and a narrow hem.

The hand sewing around the trim was actually pretty therapeutic for me. Small, even stitches, spaced equally apart. I’m not sure why but I really enjoyed the intricacy of it this time.

I wore this first to Alex’s orchestra concert with my black velvet skirt, here:

And then I wore it again the next day for church (with a cardigan and black heels), here:

And then after church, I put on my black skinnies, here:

What a lovely little top that I can wear so many ways! I will probably wait to wash it until absolutely necessary, because even hand washing it makes me worry about the delicate beading.

I will certainly use this pattern again, though. It’s a perfect little top that can be made, and worn, so many different ways.
