Evelyn has been interested in sewing for years, but she’s only recently been wanting to start sewing her own clothes. I’m more than happy to help her progress in that! So the last time Joann had a pattern sale, I let both Evelyn and Penny pick out a $1 Simplicity pattern to try. Evelyn specifically wanted a “drapey cardigan,” so we found Simplicity 8184
This soft seafoam-green knit is from my Grandma’s Stash it was perfect for this pattern. I was lucky I had such a big remnant (I had previously used it to make some American Girl doll pajamas for the girls) because the front pattern pieces were fabric-gobblers. We made a size 10 so she could wear it longer.
Evelyn cut everything out and I serged the seams, then helped her with the hemming. It was a great starter pattern for her and I’d say she loves it! She’s worn it about twice a week since we finished it. Springtime in Colorado is always exciting, weather-wise, so you can never have too many cardigans, I say.
She already has plans to make the leggings of this pattern next, followed by the skirt and top. I told her that sounds great, but only after I help Penny make one of her patterns next.
