Continuing my navy color story, I whipped up this little top last week. I loved this jacquard when I saw it at Joann, but I must not have been the only one because when I could afford to get some, it was all gone except for one little yard! I love the texture and the color and I would have made a dress or jumpsuit out of it. (I have seen it restocked since then, but I haven’t bought any more yet.) It was actually a good thing that forced me to find a pattern that only required a yard, which is good because I need more tops anyway. I used McCall’s 6751, which I’ve had for a long time.
I liked the fun crisscross back, but I have to say it does make wearing a bra difficult because every bra strap goes right through the hole. (I photo-shopped it out for these pictures.) It also sits a little strangely on my shoulders and across the front. So I love the fabric but am not that impressed with this pattern. I sewed a size Small.
I did challenge myself to do something new with this shirt: Hong Kong seams! I used navy narrow bias tape and enclosed every seam. So time-consuming, but so fun when it’s done! I also used the bias tape on the neckline and armholes. I did a narrow hem for the bottom.
The hole isn’t perfectly centered in the back, but you can only tell from the inside.
