Here’s another part of my navy collection! I’m pushing through because I only have a few more things to add, but I’m kind of ready for another color at this point!
I’ve had this navy polka dot crepe de chine from Joann for a long time, and I had several patterns paired with it before I finally made up my mind what to use it for. I was mostly inspired by this pic from Pinterest:
In fact, this dress is one of my #2018MakeTwelve goals, which means I’m now halfway done! I used the pic as a rough inspiration and settled on Simplicity 8384, since I liked the half shirt dress look and streamlined collar. The dress has elastic in the back waist seam, which makes it easier to get on (with only three buttons in the front) and comfortable to wear. It is also sized generously. I cut and sewed a straight size 8 with no adjustments. Next time I use this pattern, I will add about an inch to the bodice length.
I sewed view B but I cut the skirt with a regular curved hem, rather than the handkerchief hem. I’m just not a big fan of that look. I like the midi-length I ended up with. This fabric is smooth, drapey and flowy, and not see-through at all. I didn’t line the dress and I love how effortless that makes it. I will wear a slip with it on particularly hot days so it doesn’t stick to my legs.
I don’t know why I even mention the pockets anymore, except I consider them an incredibly important feature of any dress.
These three little pearly buttons came from my Grandma’s Stash, and they are perfect.
This pattern was very easy to sew and I’m quite delighted with the dress. I have two dresses, two tanks, shorts, and pants yet to sew, and then I’m done with navy.
Wow, typing that list out, I’m actually not close to being done with my navy collection at all! Well, better get back to it.
