Whew! What a whirlwind this summer has been. In order to prevent any misunderstandings, I definitely finished this dress a few weeks ago but only just now have been able to post it. It was one of the last things I sewed before we packed everything and moved out of our rental to live with my friend Nicole for our last few weeks here in the States. Now we are at 13 days and counting!
This striped jersey knit is from my Grandma’s Stash, and I love it for its retro vibe. I only had so much to work with, though, so the stripes on the back are perfectly matched, but they alternate along the side seams. Full disclosure! You can see where the red stripes meet the blue.
I cut the fabric with the stripes so they would go up and down, but I cut the facing pieces along the grainline. I’m also getting really good at the tie-around wrap dress style.
We’ve been having regular afternoon thunderstorms lately here in Colorado. I had only one afternoon to take these pics before I needed to pack up my entire existence, so I got what I could in between torrential downpours.
This is also the last time you’ll see lovely Louise for awhile! She is being safely stored away for now, until I can figure out how to bring her overseas. Farewell, faithful friend! Until we meet again.
Now I’m off to sort out our lives and figure out what we’re bringing, what we’re storing, and what we are letting go of. It has been quite the process already and I still have a ways to go. Wish me luck!
There is also one last dress in the Navy Collection, but I may have to finish it in Ukraine. Unless I can really get ahead and find myself with a free afternoon…
