Don and Done Dress in Cranberry

Despite appearances, I have managed to squeeze in some sewing since we moved to Ukraine! I love using my brand new machines, and I’ve actually sewn three dresses, one pair of dress slacks, and repaired/resized several pieces over the past few months.

The real issue is photographing them. It is dark when we leave for school in the morning and dark when we come home, and it’s been cold and snowy since November so I can’t easily take photos outside. That really only leaves the weekends for indoor photography, and we have been moving apartments, running errands, gradingplanningcookingcleaningparentingexploring… You see the issue.

All of that is to say that I actually whipped this dress up awhile ago out of sweater knit that I found here at our local fabric store, but I haven’t been able to post about it until now.

This pattern was very easy and I enjoyed using it. I think the size can depend greatly on the knit you use. This sweater knit has a lot of stretch, so I actually have to tie the sashes pretty tight to take in the extra ease, but with a ponte knit it might not have that problem.

This was the other time I tried to photograph the dress, in our old apartment. It was just so hard to get the light right, but I was able to show off my Christmas present from Mike: Ruby Shoo heels!

I actually found this fabric while shopping with Julia, my Ukrainian sewing friend, and she bought some of this color as well as some of the green. Now that I’ve sewn it and worn it, I think I’ll have to get some more in gray or blue for a nice long cardigan.
