This is another dress that I completed a long time ago, but since it’s dark when we leave for school and dark when we come home, I haven’t been able to photograph them. I am not sure I’ll use this pattern again, but I am happy enough with this particular dress. I have found that I didn’t bring enough knit patterns, so I will have to make sure I grab a good selection out of my pattern stash when we go home this summer.
I used Butterick 5101 for this since I wanted a long sleeved wrap dress. I had barely enough fabric to make it work, but I did manage to squeeze in some pockets. I love the way it looks and it feels amazing, but I quickly discovered the pattern flaw: the wrap skirt doesn’t overlap enough for coverage and splits open every time I walk or sit down. I solved the problem by stitching down the overlap. Now it is a faux wrap dress, but at least I don’t have to worry about the front opening.
The tie is interesting because there is actually a fabric belt loop to hold the knotted sash in place.
I found this gorgeous velvet in a fabric store conveniently positioned right across the street from our hotel in Tbilisi when we were there in October. I love all of the rich, vibrant colors and the feel of the soft, luxurious velvet. I also love the Georgian cloisonne enamel ring and earrings set that Mike found for me in the local market. I wear them all the time. Want a closer look?
Aren’t they wonderful? And they go with everything. I love the tree, mountains, sunshine, and little house. It makes me think of home, wherever in the world that is. For me, home is where Mike is.
